LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas freshman Chelsie Miller and senior captain Rebecca Swank took home All-Big 12 Honors for the first time in program history, when they were announced Friday afternoon by the Conference office.
Miller, a Houston, Texas native, was honored as the Conference's Newcomer of the Year and Swank, a member of the Academic All-Big 12 First Team, was named the league’s inaugural Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Miller and Swank are the first Jayhawks in program history to pick up All-Big 12 honors.
“These are two well deserved honors,” Kansas head coach Clark Campbell said. “Rebecca (Swank) works so hard in the classroom in a demanding major and in the pool as a distance swimmer. She earned every bit of the honor. Chelsie was one of our top athletes all year and is developing into one of the team leaders. We can't wait to see her improvement over the next three years.”
Miller closed out the season by making her debut at the Big 12 Championships, where she picked up three top-five finishes and set season-best times in the 400-yard IM (4:15.01, second), the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:26.33, fourth) and the 200-yard butterfly (2:00.66, fourth). Miller was named Newcomer of the Meet at the conclusion of the meet.
Swank earned the league's first Scholar-Athlete of the Year award, sharing the honor with West Virginia’s Liam McLaughlin. Nominees must be a junior or senior in athletic and academic standings, have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.2, participation in at least 60 percent of the team's scheduled contests, and a minimum of one year in residence at the institution in order to qualify. Swank, a three-time Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree, holds a 3.8 GPA and is a double major in accounting and marketing.

Cash takes 12th in the platform event
Senior Christy Cash closed out her KU career by making the finals of the platform event at the NCAA Zone Championships.
March 13, 2013
HOUSTON – Kansas senior Christy Cash finished with a total score of 442.10 in the platform event to lead the Jayhawk divers on the third and final day of the NCAA Zone Diving Championships at the University of Houston’s Campus Recreation and Wellness Center in Houston, Texas Wednesday afternoon.
Cash’s preliminary round score of 232.30 was good enough to qualify her for the finals, where she added 209.80 points to her total to finish 12th, which is her highest NCAA Zone platform finish of her career.
Junior Alyssa Golden finished the event with a score of 155.85 for 28th-place and freshman Meredith Brownell posted a score of 148.25 to finish 30th.
Wednesday’s platform event completed the season for the Kansas divers, who will now turn their attention to next season.
“From what we have gone through this year and how we started out at the beginning of the year, things have really come together,” Kansas diving coach Eric Elliott said. “Especially for the freshman that don’t really know what to expect, they exceeded my expectations. I think the base is there now to move forward for next year. We are definitely going to miss Christy (Cash) next year, but I think Alyssa (Golden) is right on the verge of turning that corner of getting her confidence and competing well in meets.”
