The Great South Athletic Conference announced the volleyball All-Conference awards winners at a banquet on Salem's campus Friday night and Lauren Aikens of Agnes Scott took home the top prize of Volleyball Player of the Year. Several other Scotties took home awards at the banquet, held this past weekend during the GSAC Volleyball Tournament.

Aikens, a senior middle hitter from Conyers, Ga., was a dominant presence on the court this season for the Scotties. She was the individual leader in all four of the major hitting categories, including leading the league in kills per set with 3.08. Additionally, Aikens also led the conference kills (228), hitting percentage (.246) and blocks per set (.77) on her way to capturing Player of the Year honors.

"I am so very proud of all that Lauren has meant to our program," said head coach Catherine Geerlings. "She has given us two wonderful years, and we will have a very tough time replacing her."

Other Scotties receiving recognition included two additional All-Conference Team selections for Agnes Scott. Shelli Sherman, a senior libero, was named to the team for the second year in a row, and Shakirah Dodson, the Scotties' setter, was named to the team for the first time. Two other Scotties received recognition for their work on the court as well, with Bonnie Derks being named to the All-Freshman Team, and Destiny Dawkins being recognized for her Sportsmanship.

In the classroom, Scotties who were named to the All-Academic Team included Sherman, along with Kayleigh McCrary and Briana Vannoy.
