    SPARTAN CLASS OF 2013

    CASTLETON, Vt. – Castleton State College Men's Soccer Coach John O'Connor is pleased to announce that ten players have committed to coming to play soccer at Castleton for the 2013-2014 academic year. The class represents three different New England states, New York and includes seven players from Vermont. Midfielder Justin Beauchmin (Essex Junction, Vt.), midfielder Jonathan Crana (Goshen, N.Y.), forward Owen Fellows (Morrisville, Vt.), defender Justin Hepburn (Williamstown, Vt.), defender Steve Koenemann (Montpelier, Vt.), forward Luc Leblanc (Essex Junction, Vt.), defender Kevin McCarthy (Belgrade, Maine), midfielder Alex McCormick (Starksboro, Vt.), defender Paul "P.J." Phillips (Hope Valley, R.I.) and forward Seth Wilmott (Barre, Vt.).

    "It's a bigger class than usual but the exciting part is that it provides us with depth and competition for places in every position," said O'Connor. "With the schedule we play and the competitiveness of the North Atlantic Conference, it's important to be able to look to your bench for a lift. This group of guys replace a very strong graduating class and allow us to keep moving forward in our quest to win the conference while looking to step into the regional and national spotlight down the road."

    Castleton, Vt. – Castleton men's soccer head coach John O'Connor has announced that seniors Dominic Heller, John Kendall and Nate Koenemann have been selected as team captains for the 2013 season, in voting conducted among their teammates.

    A defender for the Spartans, Heller started 17-of-18 games last fall while earning All-Tournament honors at the 2012 SUNY-Potsdam College Cup. The Glenville, N.Y. native has been a three-year starter, scoring two goals with three assists in 54 career games.

    Kendall started eight of the 15 games in which he played last year, netting a goal and an assist. A native of Springfield, Vt., he has played in 52 career games over his first three seasons, scoring six goals to go along with eight assists for 20 points.

    Koenemann returns for his senior year after starting all 18 games in 2012 with a 1.25 goals against average, a .778 save percentage, and five shutouts while being voted team MVP. He was named the Potsdam College Cup Tournament MVP as well as the North Atlantic Conference Player of the Week (9/10). The Montpelier, Vt., product has logged 4164:47 minutes over his three-year career, two as a starter, with a 1.23 GAA, 126 saves and 11 shutouts.

    This year's seniors enter the 2013 season with a 37-20-2 career record including three-consecutive appearances at the North Atlantic Conference Tournament.

    The Spartans will open the fall campaign on August 30 at home against Centennial College based in Toronto, Canada.
