    Frey, Young Headline SHU Women's Soccer All-WHAC Honorees

    ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights junior women's soccer player Paige Frey was named to the All-Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference First Team while fellow junior Kelsey Young received an honorable mention, as announced by the league on Wednesday.

    Frey, a midfielder, started all 19 games for the Saints and was a versatile player, seeing time at multiple positions. She finished with three goals and two assists to rank third on the team with eight points. Frey had a game-winning goal during SHU's 2-1 comeback win over Northwestern Ohio; the score was assisted by Young.

    Young appeared in all 19 contests, starting 18. The defender made two assists in 2013.

    Also, the Saints garnered 12 Academic All-WHAC honors, including seniors Lynn Hendricks, Allison Howard and Megan Traynor, and juniors Frey, Young, Jori Bitter, Elizabeth Davis, Meg Dubois, Abbey Marlette, Megan Michels, Meagan Mousty and Carlee Pallett.

    Traynor, a major in business and fine arts, was the Saints' WHAC Champions of Character recipient.

    Dubois is also a business major while Young concentrates in criminal justice and Pallett is a major in mathematics.

    Frey and Marlette are education majors with Frey focusing on mathematics while Marlette has a focus in elementary and special education.

    Bitter and Mousty are nursing majors, Davis and Howard are biology majors, and Hendricks and Michels are psychology majors.

    A total of seven Siena Heights women's soccer players were recently honored as Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athletes. The group included senior Lynn Hendricks and juniors Jori Bitter, Elizabeth Davis, Meg Dubois, Abbey Marlette, Megan Michels and Meagan Mousty.

    Student-athletes are nominated by their institution’s head coach and must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status in order qualify for the honor.

    Hendricks and Michels are psychology majors while Bitter and Mousty major in nursing. Dubois is a business major, Davis majors in biology and Marlette is a major in special education/elementary education.

    A total of 507 women's soccer student-athletes received the award.

    Siena Heights is an excellent small school that excels in soccer. We currently have 350 wins in our program history. We are the only school in the state to accomplish that feat.
